Japan

  • Eating: Rice and tofu and SUSHIIIIIIIII

Konichiwa!
I'm in Japan all summer, and in Kobe for most of the time. In a couple of weeks I'm going to Tokyo. Teaching at English Language summer camps in universities. Japan is very entertaining and very odd. Some of it is great fun (karaoke, puricura, sushi, cartoons everywhere) and all of it is interesting. Sight-seeing-wise, I've been to Himeji, Kyoto, Mt Rokko and Osaka. Tomorrow afternoon we're going for an onsen.
The view from my room is amazing - when I'm on my own computer again I will try and put up some photos or something.
The only art I've done have been gifts for my host families, but I remembered to take a photo of one drawing so again, that will appear here I hope.

I had to post something to shift my last rant :)

Does anyone have any recommendations of stuff to do in Japan/Tokyo/the countryside to the north of Tokyo?

Suma beach is great!

Take care xxx

BNP and British politics. ///// l'Avventura

Tue Jun 9, 2009, 10:59 AM
<rant>

Anyone who thinks that the BNP is a legitimate party to represent Britain in Europe or, democracy forbid, in our own government, is either confused, ignorant or racist. I can't believe that they blanketed my area in Somerset. They are Nazis. There is no way around it.

[link]

And if anyone thinks that that is 'liberal propaganda/slander' then just go on the BNP's own website and try not to laugh/cry at their comedy-styled reporting.

</rant>

But seriously. wtf with British politics at the moment?

Different notes:
1) l'Avventura is a beautiful film..
2) History prelims revision is endless...
3) [link] Have been inspired by Passages for Lost Clouds and am starting my own
4) Baby pangolins are the cutest things ever: [link]
5) Coffee was sent from the sky to please.
6) Art history is my favouritist ^_^
7) [link] Pose Maniacs is sent from the sky to challenge.

Here Comes the Sun

"1964
In January David Hockney visits Los Angeles for the first time and meets Christopher Isherwood and Don Bachardy, Jack Larson and Jim Bridges, the dealer Nicholas Wilder and master printer Ken Tyler. Begins using acrylic paint and taking Polaroid photographs. Works on a series of stylized Southern Californian landscapes and the first swimming pool paintings. In the summer teaches at the University of Iowa, driving across America to get there. Visits the Grand Canyon with Ossie Clark and Derek Boshier. Travels to New York for his first American exhibition at the Alan Gallery. Receives good reviews and sells every painting. Returns to London in December."

Hello! To avoid boring you to death, I will keep this brief (well, briefer than my usual rambling monologues).
Thanks for the really great response to my watercolour illustration 'Still', that was really heartening :)
Well.. the hitchhike to Morocco was a huge success and we had a fantastic time. I will post photos at some point to illustrate how lovely it was. Only slight disaster was my instant camera breaking before we even left. Very sad very sad, but I did keep a little journal which I will scan some stuff from.. at some point.
New news with me: I am going to Princeton for Fall semester 2009! That is exciting for me. And, fingersandtoesandlimbsandnose crossed, I will be taking an art course alongside my compulsary history modules.
I'm also not sure if I ever mentioned in my blog that I will going to Japan for the whole summer. That's all picking up pace now as I'm just completing my crazy English lesson plans and I went for a puntingandpimms social with the other teachers in Cambridge last weekend. Lessons written today feature the deadly serious (ahem) topics of 'tea', 'fish', ' Paddington bear' and 'the 60s'. I have been looking at lots of youtube clips of finding nemo, paddington, the beatles and motown. You may also be amazed at how much tea related news there is on the BBC website. My favourite of my 19 lessons as yet is one on performance art using vegetables.

I'm coming out of art-hibernation <3 Which is the best news I could have really.
I am just going to have to crowbar some time into my life to do art, regardless of how busy I am. Still won't be as much time as i feel I want and need, but it'll be a lot better. I've posted a couple of things recently and I am browsing DA tons again hehe! I am submitting some art to a student cultural newspaper supplement thing, getting involved with design work for our alternative prospectus and perhaps going to try and get in an exhibition, if I can get off my art-arse. Best is perhaps buckets of lifedrawing. Went once a week last term but only eight week terms so going to go twice a week now ("arg" my bank balance says).
Finally (and most importantly?) I'm going to start a proper 'withmeatalltimes' journal after really loving doing that on the hitch. Actually, I started one last week but left it in a taxi. Woops. Take two. Combine that with instant camera (which I am going to replace) and hopefully this will be good blogmaterial so watch this space...

Just generally feel like my energy and happiness is all coming awake again.

KEEEEEEPPPPP DRAWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or you will die a bit inside, too.
And if you have stopped then START AGAIN! And listen to 60s music and birds singing and you will be as happy as me.
