This was just an exercise in try out that very precise, botanical/nature study style of watercolours, to prove to myself that I could do it. I also wanted it to be beautiful, so I played with the gold/purple colour scheme.
I bought the reference photograph from a website last year, but I have frustratingly forgotten what kind of owl it is. Please enlighten me people.

If anyone is interested then I can upload detail pictures. No masking fluid was used- all the highlights were left by painting around them, even on the very little feather outlines. That took a while!

You might be suprised how easy this painting is to do, actually. I would be up for doing a tutorial, if people were interested.

Winsor and Newton watercolours on hotpress. A bit bigger than A4.
Painted as a (much overdue) gift for a friend.

I think the owl species is called Horned owl :O
But you did an absolutely amazing work just doing everything with simple strokes, especially the feathers on her wings :O Especially the fact that you didnt even use masking fluids makes this all the more amazing! Well done!

Stunning! I'm amazed at the little details, such as the outlines of the feathers. Everything is so precise - you should be very proud!
